To mark International Women's Day, a collector's coin dedicated to Almudena Grandes is being issued.
A writer and columnist, she devoted her work to exploring Spain's recent history and analysing the evolution of society from the end of the Franco regime to the beginning of the 21st century. She was honorary patron of the Film Academy Foundation, and six of her novels were adapted for the silver screen. After her death, she received numerous honours, including the title of Favourite Daughter of Madrid, the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts and the naming of streets, educational centres and Atocha station after her.
The obverse features a portrait of His Majesty King Felipe VI.
