TFP SILVER MEDAL 2023 LILIANA PORTER

30th ‘Tomás Francisco Prieto’ Royal Mint Medal Award 2023

The Argentinean artist Liliana Porter has been awarded the thirtieth edition of the Tomás Francisco Prieto Medal Prize, granted by the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre - Real Casa de la Moneda in recognition of the overall professional and human trajectory of prestigious creators.

The jury was chaired by Valldecabres Ortiz and comprised Hernán Cortés, member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando; Guillermo Navarro, academic director of the Master's Degree in Printmaking and Graphic Design at the University of Castilla-La Mancha; Inma Prieto, director of Es Baluard Contemporary Art Museum in Palma de Mallorca; and Yolanda Romero, director of the Banco de España Collection. They wished to recognise both Porter's international career and the diversity of techniques he has used (drawing, engraving, photography, sculpture) in his reflection on the methods of reproduction and the frontiers of representation. His work is currently dominated by photography, video, collages and small installations: figurines and discreet souvenirs taken from his travels - with historical and geographical backgrounds - are placed on empty monochromatic backgrounds to address philosophical issues and emotional states.

The Tomás Francisco Prieto Prize has a recognised prestige within the Spanish arts and counts among its winners names of the stature of Eduardo Chillida, Antonio Tàpies, Antonio López, Eduardo Arroyo, Pablo Palazuelo, Andreu Alfaro, Antonio Saura, José Luis Cuevas, Luis Gordillo, Carmen Laffón, Roberto Matta, Juan Barjola, Rafael Canogar, Antoni Clavé, Martín Chirino, Luis Feito, Albert Ràfols Casamada, José Hernández, Guillermo Pérez Villalta, Eva Lootz, Juan Barjola, Rafael Canogar, Antoni Clavé, Martín Chirino, Luis Feito, Albert Ràfols Casamada, José Hernández, Guillermo Pérez Villalta, Eva Lootz, Alfredo Alcain, Susana Solano, Juan Navarro Baldeweg, Cristina Iglesias, Jaume Plensa, José María Sicilia, Mitsuo Miura, Vicky Civera and, in the previous edition, José Manuel Broto.
