Ávila was designated a World Heritage Site in 1985 and has formed part of the Spanish Jewish Quarter Network since 2005. Its cultural heritage is the result of its history, architecture, people and landscapes

Birthplace of St. Teresa of Jesus and burial of Torquemada, the Grand Inquisitor, this "city of saints and stones" was founded in the eleventh century Castilian territories to protect against the Moors. Avila has preserved the austerity and clean lines of its medieval architecture, which are samples note them the Gothic cathedral and the walls, with its 82 semicircular towers nine monumental gates, are the most complete in Spain.
