On the occasion of the Bicentennial of the Prado Museum, a 30 euro silver coin has been issued, in which, colour has been used for the reproduction of a fragment of Velázquez's "Las Meninas" painting.
On the obverse the effigies of His Majesties King Felipe and Queen Letizia are reproduced. On the upper part of the coin is the inscription FELIPE VI Y LETIZIA. In the lower part of the coin, the word SPAIN and the year of minting 2019.
On the back, in the central part of the coin, there is a colour detail of the canvas "Las Meninas", by Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez, which is housed in the Museo Nacional del Prado, in Madrid. To the right there is a circle containing a QR code, which can be read by a mobile device with a specific reader, which links to a web page with information about the characteristics of the coin. To the left of the coin, the inscription PRADO MUSEUM 200 YEARS.

SET 30 EURO 2019 BICENTENNIAL OF THE PRADO MUSEUM
The Museo del Prado opened to the public on 19 November 1819 as a Royal Museum of Painting and Sculpture. In 2019, we celebrate our Bicentenary a commemoration that will reveal the path covered since 1819 until today. On this special occasion, we wish to reflect on the future and the forthcoming challenges for this and the other great Museums of ancient painting: the need to attract social groups that traditionally are not attracted by the collections, to encourage gender and minority research studies or the challenges caused by overcrowding.
On the occasion of the Bicentennial of the Museo del Prado, a collector silver coin of 30 euros is issued, in which, colour has been used for the reproduction of a fragment of Velázquez's "Las Meninas" painting.
The Royal Museum of Painting and Sculpture, which in 1868 became known as the National Museum of Painting and Sculpture and later the National Museo del Prado, opened to the public on November 19, 1819 with 311 paintings from the Royal Collection, all of Spanish authors, hung in its walls. This institution has become one of the main repositories of Western pictorial memory, a fundamental point of reference for Spanish culture and an object of collective pride. It is uniquely rich in paintings by European masters from the 16th to the 19th centuries. main attraction lies in the wide presence of Velázquez, el Greco, Goya (the most widely represented artist in the museum), Tiziano, Rubens and Bosch, of which he has the best and most extensive collections that exist worldwide, to what should be added outstanding works by other important authors such as Murillo, Ribera, Zurbarán, Fra Angelico, Rafael, Veronese, Tintoretto, Patinir, Antonio Moro, Van Dyck or Poussin.
