The obverse of this coin features a reproduction of an anonymous portrait of Admiral Luis de Córdova, commander of the Spanish squadron.
De Córdova entered history by delivering the greatest logistical blow ever suffered by the Royal Navy. At the age of 73, with extraordinary composure and strategic brilliance, he captured a British convoy of more than 50 ships en route to American territories.
His distinguished record of military victories earned him royal recognition: first as Director General of the Navy and later as the II Captain General of the Spanish Navy.
Accompanying Admiral Luis de Córdova on the reverse is a stunning reproduction of the ship Santísima Trinidad, based on a 19th‑century engraving. Commanded by de Córdova himself, this vessel became the flagship of the Spanish Navy. With its impressive 61‑metre length, 140 guns, and a crew of over 1,000 men, the Santísima Trinidad was the largest warship of its time.
