GOLD OUNCE "OSO PARDO" 2025

The Royal Spanish Mint releases a 1 ounce gold coin with the image, on the reverse, of another representative animal of Spain, in this case a brown bear (Ursus arctos). The Cantabrian or Iberian Brown Bear (Ursus arctos pyrenaicus) is part of a population of Eurasian brown bears that inhabits the Cantabrian Mountains, is listed on the Red List of Endangered Species and in Europe is included in the European Mammal Assessment as Critically Endangered. In 2020, the Brown Bear Foundation estimated the total number of Cantabrian bears to be around 370, in the hope that the projects for their conservation and recovery in different areas of northern and northwestern Spain will increase the number of specimens of this magnificent animal.
Meanwhile, in the Pyrenees, where the population practically disappeared in 2004 with the death of the last breeding female, reintroduction is being attempted with bears from Slovenia.
