On the obverse, inside a circle in the centre of the coin, the portrait of His Majesty King Philip VI, wearing the insignia of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. To the left, in a circular direction and in capital letters, the legend FELIPE VI REY DE ESPAÑA (PHILIP VI KING OF SPAIN); to the right, the mint year, 2017. On the upper left of the coin, in a circular direction and in capital letters, the legend EDAD DE HIERRO Y CRISTAL (AGE OF IRON AND GLASS). In the lower part of the coin, the common mark adopted by countries engaged in the Europa Programme while a five-pointed star fills the coin ground.
The reverse carries three motifs set inside ovals. The upper oval contains an image of the Palacio de Cristal (Crystal Palace) situated in the Madrid Park, Parque del Retiro; in the oval to the right, a reproduction of a photograph of the portrait of Galician Rosalía de Castro, drawn by Antonio Portela in 1902; in the lower left oval, an image of the replica of the Mataró locomotive, on display at the museum, Museo del Ferrocarril de Cataluña, in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
