500 YEARS COUNCIL OF ESTATE (2026) SILVER COIN
In 2026, the Council of State will celebrate its 500th anniversary. Founded in 1526 by Charles I of Spain – Charles V of Germany – in Granada to contribute to ‘good governance’ of the Kingdom, it has since advised the State on matters of particular legal and political significance. In our contemporary history, it was established as an institution by a decision of the Cortes of Cádiz. Thus began a constitutional tradition that would be reflected in the 1931 Constitution, leading to the 1978 Constitution, which establishes in Article 107 its role as the Government’s supreme advisory body.
In light of this, a series of different institutional events has been organised, with an academic, historical and educational focus, alongside a cultural and artistic programme, combining the legal and academic dimensions with broad dissemination to the general public.
The Royal Spanish Mint presents this spectacular commemorative coin, a fragment of our history, designed with the precision and artistry that characterise the FNMT-RCM; a piece that synthesises history, the present and the future, and which not only commemorates a chronological milestone but also recognises the constitutional significance and utility of the advisory role of the Council of State.
