Liliana Porter Exhibition - Traces and Vestiges

The exhibition covers the entire career of the artist, who has lived in New York since the 1960s, emphasising her relationship with the notions of trace or footprint, both as a formalisation of the passage of time converted into an objectual vestige and as a mark caused by the action that has become, in turn, a representation of the action that has taken place.

In his works, gestures, geometry, literature and humour go hand in hand in small scenes or chapters of everyday life, in which he tries to question the spectator about mundane questions. Through his own hands, objects, or through his recurring characters, whom he uses as actors and directs, he recreates scenes about instability, the non-linearity of time, fragility or social collapse.

For this reason, this publication flees from the chronological, in the same way as the artist's work, which is presented in five thematic chapters that condense diverse interests in her practice - from the 1960s to the present day - helping the viewer to enter into a continuum of conceptual and poetic materialities.

The prize, which is associated with the design of a medal by the author, is named after Tomás Francisco Prieto, the former General Engraver of the Mint of King Charles III.

By awarding these prizes to great Spanish and Latin American artists, whether or not they are linked to the world of medals, the Royal Spanish Mint aims to give prestige to the field of Spanish medals, increasing their dissemination and pursuing their continuity. At the same time, it attracts other artists to the world of medals and encourages the public to take a liking to medals and to collect them.
