BURIN 'PORTRAIT OF A MAN'ID37001019
Engraving is carried out by making incisions directly on a metal plate with a hand tool called a burin, the artist making the strokes at different depths and distances and with different inclinations, which allows him to highlight the reflections and the objects to be represented. This engraving is done without the use of acids, waxes or varnishes.
The next stage is printing. The metal plate is inked, the excess is duly wiped off with a tarlatan cloth (the appropriate fabric) and the printing is carried out on the traditional hand-operated press.
This engraving is a reproduction of Portrait of a Man, (possibly Hans Imhoff ), an oil on panel by Albrecht Dürer, now in the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
